Guest lecturer and kindergarten student, Annie Mae, offered future leaders perspective they’ll likely ignore. Speaking at Garbridge University’s Power Players series, she shared timeless wisdom, distilled from the crucible of the kindergarten playground.
“Billy wouldn’t get off the swings,” she said, addressing a room full of aspiring politicians and policy makers. “No one wants to be his friend.” Which prompted some expressions of surprise and agreement among attendees.
“My teacher says that I shouldn’t use all of the glitter glue even if I found it first,” she related. “Lies!” shouted an economics faculty member, resulting in his swift removal from the room. The atmosphere lightened during the Q&A session, however.
When asked about navigating difficult negotiations, Annie Mae suggested, “Maybe offer them a cookie? Or a sticker?”
Despite disagreements, students praised her wisdom. “It never occurred to me that if I tell a lie, people won’t believe me,” said one student, a sentiment that resonated with many. “Maybe I should say sorry.”
